Warcraft rocks the China market with $60M in the first 24 hours and targets $300M box office

The game “World of Warcraft” has a dam big group of fans in China as it’s the No.1 massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) game in China for so many years (10 years maybe?).  When the video game movie debuts in China yesterday, it harvested around $60M (400M yuan) box office in the first 24 hours, while it’s only projected to get $25M box office in the opening weekend in US.  Quite a contradiction, hmmm.  As I showed before, the Chinese movie market is booming and projected to bypass the US market in 2017.

US vs China

Go back to the movie Warcraft itself.  It’s box office is projected to reach 2B yuan ($300M).  Based on the first day box office, the target seems achievable.

And now let’s see how crazy are the fans in China.  They rent a building screen to promote the movie in the most expensive area in Shanghai (the middle blue one)

And the theaters are crowded in the mid-night.

With all the cosplays…

And funny settings in the theaters

And uniforms…

Good luck, Warcraft!
